Ukraine must become integral part of Europe’s new security system – Ukraine’s foreign minister

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has said at the Munich Security Conference that Europe can no longer rely on American protection and that Ukraine must become an integral part of a new European security architecture.

Details: The Ukraine House was opened at the Munich Security Conference for the first time this year in cooperation with the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.

Andrii Sybiha, who was the first to speak at the opening ceremony, said he considers this year's focus of the conference on Ukraine justified and inevitable.

"We are in a new era. Security outsource for Europe is over. It is time to build inner strength, and this is only possible with Ukraine as an integral part of the new European security architecture. This is why it is fair to have a Ukraine House together with the American and German Houses. This reflects Ukraine's decisive role in collective security," he said.

The minister repeatedly stressed that Europe must recognise the new reality in which European states can no longer rely on American protection.

"The time when Europe relied on external powers is over. As I said, no more outsource. We have enough of our own strengths. We only need to admit it, and Ukraine is a key source of the real European strength," he explained.

The minister also added that Ukraine would be ready to help increase the combat readiness of European defence forces: "We have learned our hard lessons, and we are ready to share them."

Background:

As previously reported, the Ukraine House was opened for the first time this year during the Munich Security Conference. Its main events are scheduled for 14 February.
It is also known that the Munich Security Conference will present an award to Ukrainians.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the conference.
