Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that the world has made its biggest concession regarding Russia, given that Vladimir Putin and his inner circle are still at liberty.

Details: Zelenskyy said he is receiving signals from the United States and President Donald Trump about the need to compromise with Russia.
Quote: "There are some signals from the American side, from President Trump. They say, 'Look, this is the time for compromises, you can make some steps forward.'
We made a lot of compromises. Putin and his friends, they are not in prison. This is the biggest compromise that the world has made already."
Details: Zelenskyy also said that when Trump proposed concluding a truce and temporarily freezing the war, Ukraine agreed to an unconditional ceasefire, but Putin has refused to consider it.
The Ukrainian leader believes this state of affairs will persist until the Kremlin ruler is put under real pressure.
Quote: "Yeah, of course he will refuse… Today one reason, tomorrow another reason, etc. We need pressure on him… Putin will stop this war if real pressure is on him."
Background:
- On 14 February, Zelenskyy said proposals that Ukraine withdraw from Donetsk Oblast without a fight are perilous, stressing that Russia's ambitions go beyond the eastern region.
- He also said he hopes the negotiations with the US and Russia on a potential end to the war will not be slowed down by the changes in the Russian negotiating team.
- New talks on ending the war in Ukraine are to be held on 17-18 February in Geneva. Russia is expected to send Vladimir Medinsky, an aide to Putin, to the talks.
- Rustem Umierov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, recently announced the names of the delegates Ukraine plans to send to the talks.
