Russian forces attacked gas infrastructure facilities in Poltava Oblast on the night of 19-20 February.

Details: Russia has attacked facilities belonging to the Naftogaz Group more than 20 times since the beginning of 2026.

Background:

  • Russia has carried out 401 attacks on Naftogaz Group infrastructure facilities since the start of the full-scale invasion. In 2025, 229 attacks were reported, exceeding the total for the prior three years.
  • On 16 February, Naftogaz Group signed a new €85 million grant agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to purchase gas.
  • The funds will be used to procure additional volumes of imported gas to partially offset the loss of domestic production resulting from Russian attacks.
