Mayor reports terrorist attack in Lviv: police officer killed, 15 injured

Explosions occurred near the Magnus shopping centre in central Lviv shortly after 00:30 on the night of 21-22 February, killing a police officer and injuring 15 people. Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi has said the incident was a terrorist attack.

Quote: "This was a terrorist attack. Fourteen people have been taken to hospital. Doctors are providing all necessary assistance. Law enforcement officers and all the appropriate services are responding."

Update: Sadovyi later reported that "a female police officer was killed in the terrorist attack in Lviv".

Police said that "the explosions occurred after patrol police officers arrived at the scene in response to a call".

At 02:38, Sadovyi clarified that around 15 people were known to have been injured, some of them in a serious condition.

The mayor added the building where the explosion occurred was not residential; it housed shops. However, the blast wave shattered windows in neighbouring buildings.

Background: On the night of 21-22 February, explosions were reported in central Lviv near the Magnus shopping centre. Police initially said there were casualties and injuries as a result of the blasts.
