President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged the European Union to stop delaying and to formally set a date for Ukraine's accession to the union, stressing that this could happen as early as 2027.

Details: Zelenskyy emphasised the need for clear certainty from Brussels. In his view, the absence of specific timelines plays into Moscow's hands and creates risks for Ukraine's future.
Zelenskyy insists that the integration process should not be stretched out over decades and proposes setting 2027 as a target.
Quote: "I want a date. I am asking for it. Let us not allow the next leaders or the next generation to face a situation where Russia blocks Ukraine's EU membership for 50 years."
Background:
- Ukraine applied for EU membership in February 2022, immediately after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.
- In June 2024, the European Union officially launched accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova.
- In December 2025, Ukraine and the EU began substantive accession talks, bypassing Hungary's objections. The negotiations currently cover three of the six clusters: Fundamentals, Internal Market and External Relations.
- On 23 February, European Pravda posted details of documents listing the reforms required for accession. These requirements will be used to assess Ukraine's readiness for membership.
