Rikard Jozwiak, the Europe editor of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, has reported, citing sources, that Hungary and Slovakia are demanding the removal of seven Russians from the EU sanctions list in order to allow the renewal of individual sanctions against Russia for another six months.

Details: As Jozwiak noted, the deadline required to extend the sanctions is 15 March.
Quote: "The [EU] counteroffer is 12-month renewal and removal of two other people that the EU considers 'weak cases'."
Background:
The EU last extended its personal sanctions against Russians on 12 September 2025.
At that time, Slovakia and Hungary demanded the exclusion of six Russian citizens from the sanctions lists, but despite their efforts, the six Russians remained on the lists.
Meanwhile, some individuals were removed from the sanctions list "for technical reasons".
