Background:

  • US President Donald Trump said he will delay strikes on Iran's energy facilities until 6 April at Tehran's request.
  • On 23 March, Trump wrote on Truth Social that after "productive" talks with Tehran, he had ordered the military to pause attacks on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days.
  • Prior to that, Trump threatened to bomb Iran's power facilities if Tehran did not restore freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil exports. Iranian officials responded that if the US struck power plants, they would target American infrastructure in the Middle East.
  • On 22 March, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the killing of Iranian leaders during the American-Israeli operation will have profound repercussions.
