Details: Organisers of the protests hope the third wave of No Kings demonstrations will become the largest single-day protest in US history.

More than 3,200 events have been scheduled across all 50 states and several cities outside the US. The two previous No Kings protests brought together millions of participants.

In Minnesota, organisers expect 100,000 people to attend today's rallies. The protests are supported by singers Bruce Springsteen and Joan Baez. The region has become an epicentre of tensions due to Trump's strict measures against illegal immigration and the deployment of federal immigration agents to urban centres governed by Democrats.
Other major rallies are taking place in New York, Los Angeles and Washington, but two-thirds of the events are being held outside major cities.
On the National Mall in Washington, crowds chanted pro-democracy slogans and held placards criticising Trump's policies.
In Austin, Texas, a brass band accompanied protesters who gathered near City Hall before marching through the city centre.

Thousands also gathered in central Manhattan, where actor Robert De Niro, one of the organisers, said: "There have been other presidents who have tested the constitutional limits of their power, but none have been such an existential threat to our freedoms and security."
Reuters notes that the rallies come amid a decline in Trump's approval rating to 36%, the lowest level since his return to the White House, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.
Background:
- The No Kings movement, launched last year on Trump's birthday, 14 June, brought together an estimated 4 to 6 million people in about 2,100 locations across the country.
- The second wave of protests, held in October, involved about 7 million participants in more than 2,700 US cities.
