Details: The defence ministry noted that these systems will help Ukraine's air defence counter Shahed drones and other aerial threats.
Sweden is set to allocate €400 million for their procurement, accounting for nearly a third of a new €1.2 billion military aid package unveiled in February.
The Tridon Mk2 is a mobile medium-range air defence system. One of its advantages is the relatively low cost per shot.
It is equipped with a 40mm Bofors 40 Mk4 autocannon, capable of engaging targets at a range of up to 12 km and firing up to 300 rounds per minute.
The system can operate at a reduced rate of fire of 200 rounds per minute, conserving ammunition and enabling fire to be adapted to specific missions.
The Tridon Mk2 gun uses programmable airburst ammunition, which detonates directly in front of the target to create a cloud of fragments. This significantly increases effectiveness against aerial drones and cruise missiles.
Background:
- On 1 February, it became known that Sweden was also preparing "one of its largest" military aid packages for Ukraine.
- Later, it was reported that Sweden and Denmark would jointly provide Ukraine with an aid package worth SEK 2.6 billion (€246 million), which would include air defence systems.
