Details: The statement appeared on X (Twitter) of Trump's communications team account called Rapid Response 47, one of the semi-official White House communications accounts, in response to a tweet by a news channel that suggested US Vice President JD Vance had mentioned the possible use of nuclear weapons against Iran.
In the attached video, Vance expressed hope that Iran would "make the right response" and said: "We've got tools in our toolkit that we so far haven't decided to use. The president of the United States can decide to use them. And he will decide to use them if the Iranians don't change their course of conduct."
"Literally nothing the vice president said here 'implies' this, you absolute buffoons," Rapid Response 47 replied.
Background:
- Over the past day, Trump has issued a series of new threats towards Iran, warning that they could begin to be implemented overnight if his ultimatum to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is not fulfilled. Among other things, he said the United States could destroy Iran in one night and bomb all bridges and power plants in the country within hours. He also stated that if his demand is not met overnight, "a whole civilisation will die".
- The ultimatum announced by Trump expires at 20:00 Eastern Time, which is 03:00 in Kyiv.
