Ukrainian military introduces universal ground station for fibre-optic drones, says defence minister

Ukraine's military is introducing a universal ground station for fibre-optic drones.

Details: Fedorov said fibre-optic drones are one of the key elements in striking Russian forces. He said they are immune to electronic warfare and help destroy targets at ranges where other solutions lose effectiveness.
Quote: "However, every operator working with fibre-optic drones faces the same problem: a 'zoo' of different ground control stations for launching UAVs. Dozens of different systems made by different manufacturers are operating on the front lines at the same time. That is why, when heading to positions, operators are forced to take three to five different models with them. This creates an unnecessary burden and reduces the time available for carrying out combat missions."
More details: Fedorov said that Serhii Sternenko, his adviser on UAV efficiency, has been working with manufacturers for several months to address the issue.
Quote from Fedorov: "Today there are two types of ground stations for fibre-optic drones: analogue and digital. The most common are analogue systems, and they currently underpin the bulk of unit operations. Unified technical requirements for analogue ground stations have already been developed, and we now have a prototype that is as close as possible to mass production. This week, we are handing the stations over to units for combat testing."
More details: Fedorov said the next stage will be digital fibre-optic control systems and scaling up a single unified solution across the whole front line.
Quote: "Our goal is to create a single standardised ground station that replaces several different solutions and removes unnecessary complexity from unit operations."
