Ukraine introduces remote control of interceptor drones from thousands of kilometres away

Ukraine is implementing a new level of "small" air defence – interceptor drones can now be controlled from thousands of kilometres away, and over 10 manufacturers have already integrated this solution into their systems.

Quote: "A year ago, through Brave1, we initiated the development and testing of remote control technology for interceptor drones. Today we have a confirmed result – the downing of targets at distances of hundreds and thousands of kilometres."
Details: Fedorov said Ukraine is the first country in the world to systematically scale up remote control for interceptor drones, becoming a role model in defence innovation and setting a new standard for air defence.

"The pilot is no longer tied to a position. The drone is in the sky – control is from a protected environment in Kyiv, Lviv or even abroad," the defence minister explained.
This increases interception effectiveness, minimises risks to operators, and enables capabilities to be scaled up without being tied to the front line, Fedorov said.
Over 10 manufacturers have already integrated this solution into their systems.
"We are moving towards achieving our targets: 100% detection and at least 95% neutralisation of enemy aerial assets," Fedorov stressed.
Background:
- Earlier, the Ukrainian government launched an experimental project to simplify the procurement, testing and implementation of innovations for the military.
- Ukrainian interceptor drones destroyed a record number of Russian UAVs of various types in March 2026 – over 33,000.
