Moldova's president: Moldova seeks peaceful solution in Transnistria while Ukraine keeps Russian forces away from its borders

Moldovan President Maia Sandu believes that a peaceful resolution of the conflict in the unrecognised region of Transnistria is possible thanks to Ukraine keeping the Russian army far from Moldova's borders.

Details: Sandu confirmed earlier reports by European Pravda that Moldova is discussing the issue of Transnistria's reintegration with partners in the European Union.
"We have discussed this issue, particularly with our EU partners, and we all agree that we need a process that will ensure demilitarisation of the region, de-oligarchisation and democratisation. To implement this stage, we will need international support – this is what we are currently discussing, primarily with the EU. So this is part of the discussion on reintegration plans," Sandu said.
She also commented on Ukraine's role in this process.
"The greatest contribution Ukraine is already making is keeping the Russian army far from our borders, thereby allowing us to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict, and we highly appreciate this," she noted.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also addressed the issue.
"As for an international mechanism, this is undoubtedly a matter first and foremost for Moldova. And it is clear why. It is fair – it cannot be otherwise. For us, the issue of Transnistria is always a matter of security on our borders," he said.
Background: Recently, Moldova declared representatives of the command of the Operational Group of Russian Forces (OGRF), illegally stationed in unrecognised Transnistria, persona non grata.
