On 28 April, the Latvian government approved a draft decision proposed by the Ministry of Defence on transferring additional CVR(T) combat reconnaissance vehicles to Ukraine. The exact number has not been disclosed.
"Taking into account the current needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, we will provide additional CVR(T) tracked armoured reconnaissance vehicles to help counter Russian aggression – and we will continue this support for as long as necessary," said Defence Minister Andris Sprūds.
The decision was also confirmed by Foreign Minister Baiba Braže. "We'll continue to ensure that Ukraine is strong on the battlefield as it will bring peace closer at the negotiating table," she said.
The Ministry of Defence emphasised that this assistance will not affect the operational capabilities of Latvia's Armed Forces.
Background:
- In 2025, Latvia's military aid to Ukraine amounted to 0.3% of its GDP, and in 2026, it is planned to reach 0.25% of GDP.
- Additionally, it became known on 28 April that Latvia banned entry to three Russian individuals, including Sergei Lavrov's daughter.
- Earlier this week, it was also announced that Ukraine and Norway are launching their first joint production of mid-strike drones.
