Suspect admits to killing Ukrainian MP Parubii in August 2025

At a hearing of the Frankivskyi District Court of Lviv, the accused Mykhailo Stselnikov pleaded guilty to the killing of MP Andrii Parubii in August 2025.

Details: According to the outlet, Stselnikov admitted guilt only to some of the charges brought against him under the Criminal Code, including the murder.

Parubii's wife requested the court to not allow the defendant to be exchanged and sent to Russia.

Background:

  • On 30 August 2025, Andrii Parubii, MP and former chairman of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament), was killed in Lviv. The Office of the Prosecutor General said the attacker fired several shots at the politician, killing him instantly.
  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on the night of 31 August-1 September that a suspect in the murder had been detained.
  • In October, the Security Service of Ukraine said its investigators had gathered irrefutable evidence of treason by the suspect, Mykhailo Stselnikov, and notified him of additional charges.
  • The Security Service of Ukraine later completed a pre-trial investigation into Parubii's killing and sent the indictment to court.
