Details: In their statement, the National Armed Forces said that, together with NATO allies, they continuously monitor the airspace to ensure the ability to respond immediately to potential threats.
The Latvian military also strengthened air defence capabilities on the eastern border by deploying additional units there.
"As long as Russian aggression against Ukraine continues, repeated incidents involving foreign UAVs entering or approaching Latvian airspace remain possible," the statement said.
Residents were urged to take shelter following the two-walls rule and to close windows and doors. [The two-walls rule is a safety rule whereby a person keeps two walls without windows between them and the street during attacks – ed.]
Later, the Latvian military stated that the air threat had been eliminated.
They also confirmed that one UAV had entered Latvian airspace before subsequently leaving the country's airspace.
"Fighter jets participating in NATO's Baltic Air Policing mission were deployed," the Latvian military added.
