Ukraine's foreign minister discusses threats from Russia and Belarus with Rutte

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has held a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on the sidelines of the NATO foreign ministers' meeting in the Swedish city of Helsingborg.

Details: Sybiha briefed Rutte on the intensification of Russian military threats emanating from Belarus towards Ukraine and Europe as a whole.
Sybiha stressed that strong collective deterrence is currently necessary to thwart Moscow's and Minsk's plans.
The two officials also discussed the latest developments on the battlefield and Ukraine's long-range strikes on Russia, as well as the need to develop the PURL initiative for the procurement of American weaponry.
They also discussed peace talks on ending the war.
Quote: "We also spoke about peace efforts and Europe's role. To advance diplomacy, pressure on Moscow remains critical. I reiterated that there should be no easing of sanctions."
Background:
- The NATO foreign ministers' meeting is taking place in Helsingborg, Sweden, on 21-22 May. The NATO-Ukraine Council is also expected to meet on its sidelines at an informal dinner to which Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has been invited.
- German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that the meeting in the Swedish city of Helsingborg will address the war in the Middle East and strengthening support for Ukraine.
