The minister stressed that the Russian strikes on Sunday were aimed at the historic centre of the city.

"It is also important to note that the Russian strikes targeted a historic area, the very centre of the ancient Rus. Yet another proof we are dealing with hordes of barbarians, not the heirs of civilisation," Sybiha wrote.

He added that despite the attack, Ukrainian diplomacy will continue to carry out its work.

Quote: "Looking at its broken windows this morning, I can state with full confidence on behalf of our entire diplomatic team: Russian terrorists will not make us stop. Ukrainian diplomacy will continue effectively fulfilling its tasks, countering Russian aggression and bringing peace closer."

Background:

  • On the night of 23-24 May, Russia carried out another combined attack on Ukraine. During the strike, Russian forces used ballistic missiles and drones. Kyiv was the main target of the attack, with 56 people injured and two people killed.
  • Commenting on the Russian attack, Sybiha called on Kyiv's partners not to ease efforts to increase sanctions pressure on Russia and strengthen support for Ukraine.
  • Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned the Russian attack, stressing that such strikes do not change the fact that Moscow will lose the war.
