Details: Over the month of May, Ukrainian forces killed or seriously wounded 31,530 Russian soldiers. The Ministry of Defence also recorded that the distance of strikes from the line of combat contact has been tending to increase. The number of strikes that were carried out over 50 km from the front line was twice as high in May as in April.

Quote: "The logistics lockdown is working. We have also recorded unprecedented results in terms of destroying enemy vehicles and motorcycles. We are hitting what sustains the Russian offensive. Destroying logistics, transport and depots forces the enemy to expend resources on survival rather than advancing."

Details: Fedorov also reported that Ukrainian forces shot down a record number of Shahed drones last month. Russian forces launched over 10,000 loitering munitions in total – 25% more than in April – but the number of interceptions increased by 50%.

In May, Ukrainian troops carried out more than 14,000 logistics and evacuation missions using ground robotic systems.

"That is an average of 455 missions per day during which robots carried out dangerous work rather than people," the minister noted.

Background:

  • At the end of May, Fedorov announced the launch of Logistics Lockdown, a programme aimed at scaling up mid-range operations and systematically destroying Russian capabilities at operational depth. During the first stage of the programme, the Ministry of Defence, together with the General Staff, has allocated an additional UAH 5 billion (around US$113 million) directly to military units for the procurement of modern mid-range systems.
  • Russian forces recently posted a video showing some of their lorries being destroyed in the occupied part of Donetsk Oblast, over 150 km behind Russian lines.
  • In early May, the 1st Azov Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine carried out an operation in Mariupol in which several Russian vehicles were destroyed over 160 km away from the front line.
