Ukrainian rescue workers reveal aftermath of Russia's Shahed strike on historic Kyiv monastery – photos, video
Firefighters have extinguished fires covering an area of around 800 sq m at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra (the Monastery of the Caves) and 1,000 sq m at the Mystetskyi Arsenal, a museum and art exhibition complex, which broke out as a result of Russian strikes on the capital.

Details: The State Emergency Service has released video and photos showing the aftermath of the strikes by the Russians.
The SES added that efforts to deal with the aftermath are still ongoing at three other locations where the Russian forces hit civilian and residential infrastructure facilities in the city. The latest reports are still coming in.
The number of civilians killed in the large-scale Russian attack has risen to five, with a further 34 injured, including two children.
Background:
- A fire broke out at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra during a large-scale Russian attack on the city of Kyiv. Kyiv City Military Administration reported a direct hit on the Lavra and significant damage.
- In a social media post, Metropolitan Epiphanius, Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), described the Russian strike on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra as "yet another crime against humanity".
- Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Ukraine is launching procedures through UNESCO and other international mechanisms, calling for "an immediate and appropriate response" to the Russian strike, which has caused significant damage to buildings at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.
- The general director of the monastery complex reported that a Russian Shahed drone hit the altar section of the Dormition Cathedral at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.
- Sacred items – icons, altar cloths and liturgical objects – were evacuated. The Kyiv Pechersk Lavra has been temporarily closed to visitors due to the Russian attack.
