Ukraine has created window of opportunity in war but it will not last forever, NATO says
Ukraine has managed to create a window of opportunity in its war with Russia, but it will not remain open forever and this opportunity must be seized.
Source: NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska during a speech at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk, as reported by European Pravda correspondent
Details: Shekerinska said Ukraine has managed to turn the tide of the war and that this could be seen not only on the battlefield but also in strikes on Moscow and St Petersburg.
She said this is also evident in Russia's behaviour: whenever Moscow saw weakness, it struck, targeting civilian and energy infrastructure, including a UNESCO-listed religious site of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. Shekerinska said that after all Russia's praise for Christianity and Orthodoxy, it ultimately bombed a sacred place, which she described not as a sign of strength but as a sign of weakness.
She pointed out that the window of opportunity has opened because Ukrainians have not only courage but also ingenuity, experience, a new strategic concept and the support they need at a certain moment.
However, she warned that this "window of opportunity" was not unlimited in time.
Shekerinska said such windows of opportunity are created at the cost of many sacrifices but will not remain open forever, stressing that the moment must be seized and Ukraine must be supported in its priorities.
Background:
- German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Ukraine is now in a new position of strength on the battlefield and that Russia should therefore begin talks to freeze the front line.
- Former Polish president Aleksander Kwaśniewski is convinced that the situation in Russia's war against Ukraine will move closer to a real ceasefire in the coming months.
