Macron: US confirms it is no longer neutral mediator and backs Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron has said that, for the first time, the US has confirmed in an official text that it is no longer a neutral mediator in Russia's war against Ukraine.

Quote: "This is why in this regard, I believe that last week's G7 facilitated a very significant realignment between the US, Canada, Japan and Europe. This is particularly true regarding the situation in Ukraine, as for the first time the US has signed a joint statement with us that clearly states that it is no longer a neutral mediator but stands alongside us in supporting Ukraine's territorial sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as providing military and energy assistance and imposing sanctions against Russia."

Background: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump and Macron held a trilateral meeting on 16 June on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France.
