Quote: "In the immediate vicinity of our border, fortunately there is no build-up of a strike grouping or reinforcement of military units and equipment that we would register, and personnel. But as we can see, and according to intelligence unit data, Russia's pressure on Belarus continues, because deep within the country there is a build-up of various military infrastructure facilities – both training grounds and bases where personnel can be stationed.

So our task is to build up our defensive capabilities and be ready for any developments."

Details: Demchenko also noted that with regard to the units Belarus has been stationing along the border with Ukraine since 2022 – when Lukashenko claimed they were forced to take this step because they were expecting some threat from Ukraine's side – their numbers are not increasing, and periodic rotations are taking place, which Ukraine's border guards are observing at present.

"One unit is being replaced by another right now," he added.

Background:

  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that according to intelligence data, Belarus is preparing for a potential expansion of aggression against Ukraine.
  • Zelenskyy stated that Belarus has received the necessary signals from Ukraine regarding such activity and all the other ways in which it is collaborating with Russia to prolong and escalate the war. Belarus knows what steps it needs to take for peace, the president stressed.
