Details: According to the Russian outlet Astra, an analysis of videos published online showed that the fire broke out on the premises of the Slavyansk oil refinery.

The operational headquarters of Krasnodar Krai confirmed that the refinery had been targeted.

Quote from the headquarters: "In Slavyansk-on-Kuban, debris from a UAV caused a fire at the oil refinery.

The debris also damaged a power transmission line and shattered windows in a house."

For reference: Slavyansk-EKO LLC (the Slavyansk oil refinery) is one of Russia's largest oil refineries, located in the town of Slavyansk-on-Kuban in Krasnodar Krai.

The refinery processes crude oil and produces gas condensate, diesel feedstock, fuel oil, low-viscosity marine fuel, vacuum gas oil and other petroleum products. It has an annual processing capacity of around 4–5 million tonnes of crude and accounts for about 9% of oil refining in Russia's Southern Federal District. The refinery is also one of the country's major exporters of petroleum products through Black Sea ports.

Background:

  • Ukraine has previously targeted the Slavyansk oil refinery on several occasions.
  • In particular, the refinery confirmed that at least one processing unit was damaged in a drone attack on 19 May 2024.
  • Earlier, it was also reported that the refinery had been forced to suspend some operations after a drone strike on 27 April 2024.
