Bail of UAH 150 million (US$3.3 million) has been posted for former energy minister Herman Halushchenko, a suspect in the Midas case, the investigation into corruption in Ukraine's energy sector.
Source: Ukrainska Pravda sources in law enforcement agencies
Details: Sources told Ukrainska Pravda that the bail money was paid by four companies: Tetras Optima LLC (UAH 54 million/US$1.2 million), Hiran Contract LLC (UAH 87 million/US$1.9 million), Skait Retail LLC (UAH 5 million/US$111,500) and Pelet Service LLC (UAH 4 million/US$89,000).
Previously:
- UP sources reported earlier that as of the end of 26 June, UAH 105 million (US$2.4 million) had been raised for bail.
- The sources said the bail money was being paid by legal entities.
- Shortly before then, the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine had extended Halushchenko's detention but reduced his bail from UAH 200 million (US$4.5 million) to UAH 150 million.
Background:
- On the morning of 10 November 2025, it emerged that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) was carrying out searches with respect to businessman Tymur Mindich and the then-justice minister, Herman Halushchenko. On the same day, Ukrainska Pravda sources reported that Mindich had fled abroad just hours before the searches began.
- Later that day, NABU announced that it had uncovered a large-scale corruption scheme involving embezzlement in the energy sector and released audio recordings of conversations between the suspects.
- Halushchenko, who, along with Tymur Mindich, is implicated in the Midas corruption case, was remanded in custody with bail set at UAH 200 million.
- A panel of judges in the Appeals Chamber of Ukraine's High Anti-Corruption Court has dismissed appeals filed by Halushchenko's lawyers and a prosecutor from the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office. The defence argued that the allegations were unfounded and sought to overturn the court's decision to remand Halushchenko in custody.
