Reuters reported citing sources that the fuel will first be sent to South Korea, with several traders involved in the overall chain of the deal.

Kpler, a company that tracks global supply chains, said Russia last imported jet fuel along this route in February 2022. A shipment of 22,000 barrels was then sent from the port of Yeosu to Vladivostok.

Background:

  • Russia began importing petrol by sea for the first time in a long period in an attempt to cover a fuel shortage caused by Ukrainian strikes on its oil refineries.
  • Russia is negotiating with Kazakhstan to import around 50,000 tonnes of AI-92 petrol to ease domestic shortages caused by refinery shutdowns and unscheduled repairs.
  • Earlier, Rostov-based airline Azimuth sounded the alarm over an acute shortage of aviation fuel in Russia's southern regions.
