Polish defence minister accuses president's aides of lying about missiles sent to Ukraine

Details: Kosiniak-Kamysz made the remarks after his ministry declassified information on military assistance to Ukraine, including the previously undisclosed transfer of PAC-3 missiles for Patriot air defence systems.
Following the disclosure, Bartosz Grodecki, Head of the National Security Bureau, said that decisions on transferring military equipment fall exclusively within the government's authority and do not require consultations with or the involvement of the Polish president.
In response, the defence minister said Nawrocki's entourage is "lying by claiming that President Nawrocki knew nothing about the equipment transferred to Ukraine".
According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, the issue was discussed during meetings of the Council of Ministers' Security Committee attended by a representative of the National Security Bureau. He said the meetings took place on 10 February, 17 February and 24 March 2026.
The minister added that Zbigniew Bogucki, Head of the President's Chancellery, had also been informed and that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had discussed the matter directly with Nawrocki. "Whose interests are you serving by lying?" Kosiniak-Kamysz asked.
Marcin Przydacz, Head of the International Policy Bureau of the President's Chancellery, had likewise claimed that the government had not consulted either the president or the National Security Bureau before transferring the missiles to Ukraine.
Background:
- On 4 July, Krzysztof Bosak, co-leader of Poland's far-right, anti-Ukrainian Confederation party and Deputy Marshal of the Sejm, claimed that the Polish government had secretly transferred Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine in March.
- In response, Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that he has ordered the declassification of information on military aid provided to Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.
- On 6 July, the defence minister acknowledged that Poland had decided to transfer PAC-3 missiles for Patriot air defence systems to Ukraine at the request of the NATO secretary general, the commander of United States European Command and the commander of United States Army Europe and Africa, following consultations with a group of Patriot operators.
