Details: DIU said the Polyus Research Institute is one of Russia's leading research and production centres and forms part of the state-owned defence conglomerate Rostec. The institute specialises in developments in laser technologies, inertial systems and quantum electronics.
Quote: "The database obtained by intelligence officers contains information about existing and future enemy projects in the production of high-precision weapons, as well as the modernisation of missile weapons and drones, including through the use of foreign components, which Russia uses to wage its genocidal war against Ukraine."
More details: DIU said analysis of the data shows the growing dependence of Russia's military-industrial complex on supplies of components from China. Chinese-made optical parts are key to the navigation and guidance systems of all types of Iskander short-range ballistic missiles.

DIU also pointed out that laser gyroscopes made by the Tianjin Navigation Instruments Research Institute in China are an important component of the navigation, stabilisation and guidance systems of various types of Russian missiles and drones.
The Polyus Research Institute is involved in a project to create a Russian laser anti-drone system, DIU said. Specifically, the institute is developing a technological system designed to detect, track and hold a target within the laser's area of effect.
Quote: "The documents show that the aggressor has begun testing experimental samples of the laser system in Bryansk Oblast."
More details: DIU said the data reveals what the high-tech component of Russia's military-industrial complex is working on, exposes production chains and vulnerabilities and shows how Russia is attempting to obtain foreign components for weapons production despite international sanctions.
In addition, DIU reported that the Polyus Research Institute database contains personal data of Russian designers, engineers and other experts involved in the production of Russian weapons.
Background:
- Earlier, DIU released data on 48 companies belonging to Shvabe, a Russian holding company that is part of Rostec.
- DIU also published data on 66 units of foreign technological equipment used by companies of Russia's defence industrial base.
