Details: On 13 July, Trump stated that the Strait of Hormuz is "OPEN" and "will remain OPEN" regardless of whether Iran participates or not.
He stressed that the US would reinstate a blockade of Iran's seaports and said that all other countries would now have "fair and open use of" the Strait of Hormuz.
"The USA will be, from this point forward, known as 'THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT', but as such, and as a matter of FAIRNESS, will be reimbursed, at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped, for any and all costs necessary to do the job of providing safety and security to this very volatile section of the World," Trump said.
Trump added that the process and organisational measures would begin immediately.
Background:
- On 12 July, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the closure of the shipping route. In response, Trump insisted that the strait remained open and spoke about US strikes on Iran.
- A few days earlier, Trump had claimed that Iran had approached the United States with a request to continue negotiations.
