Russia has attacked Ukraine with more ballistic missiles this month than it produces monthly – ISW

Russia has attacked Ukraine with more ballistic missiles since the beginning of July than it is believed to produce in a month, leading the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) to suggest that Moscow is drawing on its stockpiles.

Details: ISW analysts cite Militarnyi, a Ukrainian military news outlet, which reported that Russia had used up to two-thirds of its planned annual production of Zircon missiles in July alone. Militarnyi also said that Russia has launched more ballistic missiles this month than its declared monthly production capacity.

According to reports by Ukraine's Air Force, Russia has launched 107 ballistic missiles and 20 Zircon missiles against Ukraine since the beginning of July.

Militarnyi, citing unnamed data from Defence Intelligence of Ukraine , reported that Russia produces around 60 Iskander-M ballistic missiles and another 40 missiles for S-400 air defence systems each month.

Quote from the report: "Russia appears to be dipping into its stockpiles to continue increasing the number of ballistic missiles it launches against Ukraine, as these missiles have a higher success rate than drones and cruise missiles."

Details: Meanwhile, ISW noted that Russian forces have reduced the number of drones used in overnight attacks. Since the beginning of July, Russia has launched 2,955 drones, compared with 5,749 in June.

Background: Russian forces launched a large-scale combined attack on Ukraine using 41 missiles and 125 drones on the night of 18-19 July. Hits by 23 missiles and 10 attack drones were reported and Kyiv was the main target of the attack.
