Russia attacks Ukraine with ballistic missile, air-launched missiles and 168 drones, hitting nine locations

Russian forces attacked Ukraine with a ballistic missile, five Kh-59/69 air-to-surface missiles and 168 drones on the night of 22-23 July. Ukrainian air defences have downed 156 aerial assets, but missile and drone strikes have been recorded at nine locations.

Details: Since 18:00 on 22 July Russia has launched one Iskander-M ballistic missile and five Kh-59/69 air-to-surface missiles from temporarily occupied Crimea.

Russia has also deployed 168 Shahed (some jet-powered), Gerbera and Italmas attack drones and Parodiya decoy UAVs. They were launched from the Russian cities of Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol and Primorsko-Akhtarsk as well as from occupied Donetsk and Hvardiiske in Crimea.

Aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare assets, unmanned systems units and mobile fire groups from Ukraine's defence forces have been involved in repelling the attack.

Quote: "As of 07:30, [Ukrainian] air defence forces had destroyed or jammed two Kh-59/69 air-to-surface missiles and 154 Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas and other types of drones in the country's north, south and east.

Hits by one ballistic missile, three air-to-surface missiles and seven UAVs have been recorded at nine locations and the fall of downed aerial assets (debris) at four locations.

The attack is ongoing, as several enemy drones are still in the airspace. Please observe safety measures."

Background: Russian forces launched near-continuous attacks on the city of Odesa on the night of 22-23 July, damaging infrastructure facilities, an office building, cars and houses. No casualties were reported.
