New French ambassador records message in Ukrainian before heading to Kyiv

As France's new ambassador to Ukraine, Brice Roquefeuil, prepares to take up his post, he has recorded an address in Ukrainian to mark the occasion.

Details: The embassy shared Roquefeuil's message from Paris, captioning it "On the way to Ukraine".

"Before leaving for Kyiv, I would like to introduce myself to you from here – the French Foreign Ministry building on the Quai d'Orsay. President Zelenskyy was here a few days ago to attend a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing," Roquefeuil said.

He noted that he has visited Ukraine many times over the past three years as Director for Continental Europe at France's Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, taking part in official visits and being actively involved in efforts to support Ukraine across many areas.

"I will continue to work in all these areas as the new French ambassador to Ukraine, together with the entire embassy team," he added.

Roquefeuil was appointed France's ambassador to Ukraine by a decree issued by President Emmanuel Macron on 13 July.

He will take over from Gaël Veyssière, who headed the French diplomatic mission in Kyiv for three years and is returning to Paris to lead the Crisis and Support Centre at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

Germany's ambassador to Ukraine, Heiko Thoms, is also completing his tenure. Spiegel has reported that Boris Ruge, a diplomat at NATO headquarters, is set to replace him.
