Emergency services in Kyiv have completed efforts to deal with the aftermath of Russia's overnight attack, with final figures confirming nine people killed and 33 injured.

Details: A total of 206 rescue workers and 42 pieces of equipment were involved in dealing with the aftermath of the attack.

Background:

  • On the night of 31 July-1 August, Russian forces launched a large-scale ballistic missile attack on Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast, causing fires and destruction in five districts of the capital. Earlier reports confirmed nine were killed and more than 30 were injured.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that due to a shortage of Patriot interceptors, Ukraine's air defence managed to shoot down only one of 27 Russian ballistic missiles, and urged partners to provide additional anti-ballistic systems.
