Details: The president reported that he had held a coordination meeting on "all types of sanctions against Russia for this war".
Zelenskyy identified the most important task as not allowing Russia time to adapt to the restrictions. He also noted that every Russian missile, every drone and the majority of other types of Russian weapons contain critical components from other countries.
Participants in the meeting also discussed "Russia's use of machine tools and technologies that Moscow is generations behind in and certainly could not have developed on its own".
Quote: "I have instructed that a clear plan be drawn up for a special sanctions operation that must significantly constrain Russia's military industry – targeting specific companies in the areas we have identified. Every participant in the meeting received clear tasks."
Background:
- On 25 June, Zelenskyy announced that he had approved a 40-day influence operation by Ukraine's Security Service targeting Russia "with the aim of pushing it towards ending the war".
- Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, commenting on the operation, urged people to "not fixate on the timeframe".
- Zelenskyy announced on 4 August that he had approved new operations by the Security Service of Ukraine.
