Details: Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said any potential transfer of weapons should be assessed primarily from the perspective of Poland's own security.
She added that the assessment of the situation has been influenced by the recent incident involving a Russian missile that violated Polish territory. In her view, Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz is currently inclined to support the transfer of another batch of missiles to Ukraine.
Quote: "Despite all the political fuss there was earlier over whether we were right to transfer the missiles, today he is inclined to transfer more, because he'd rather such a missile be shot down over Ukrainian territory than fly into ours."
More details: Asked when a decision might be made, Sobkowiak-Czarnecka replied briefly: "I think this issue will be resolved in the coming days."
Background:
- This would not be the first assistance of this kind. In July, Ukraine's Ministry of Defence officially confirmed that Poland had transferred PAC-3 missiles, designed for Patriot systems, to Ukraine several months earlier. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the package contained five missiles.
- Following the latest incident in which a missile fell on Polish territory, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Warsaw will shortly consider transferring additional missiles for Patriot air defence systems to Ukraine.
