The countries are now required to ensure that their national sanctions policies are fully aligned with the EU restrictions.

Background:

  • On 24 July, the Council of the EU adopted a decision extending and updating restrictive measures against Iran.
  • On 29 July, Kaja Kallas held a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and urged him to immediately end Iran's military support for Russia. She stressed at the time that supplies to Moscow were helping Russia continue its attacks and inflict casualties on Ukrainian civilians.
