The drone remained in Moldovan airspace for six minutes before leaving.

It crossed the state border from Ukraine near the village of Bolboka (since 1948, Kotlovyna) in the Reni hromada, the Izmail district, Odesa Oblast, and entered Moldovan territory towards the village of Etulia in the Gagauz Autonomous Territorial Unit. [A hromada is an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories – ed.]

"The military-type flying object left the national airspace at 03:22, heading from the village of Etulia towards Ukraine. The flight took place following an overnight Russian airstrike on Ukraine," Moldova's Defence Ministry said.

Background:

  • That same night, a drone also violated Romanian airspace, prompting aircraft to be deployed to monitor it. The drone entered Romanian airspace about 13 km east of the city of Galați and landed at 03:24 approximately four kilometres north-east of the village of Grindu in Tulcea County, in an uninhabited area.
  • Poland also scrambled its military aircraft overnight in response to Russia's attack on Ukraine, but no violation of Polish airspace was detected.
