A meeting of the Coalition of the Willing on further support for Ukraine, involving leaders of member states, will take place on 24 August.

Details: The agenda and format of the meeting, which will take place on Ukraine's Independence Day, have not yet been disclosed.

However, NATO will be represented remotely via video link by Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska.

The meeting will be co-chaired by UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Background:

  • On 13 July in Paris, participants in a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing agreed to hold their next meeting in Ukraine.
  • Ukrainian troops and soldiers from the Coalition of the Willing countries took part in the Bastille Day parade in Paris on 14 July, including Ukrainian pilots flying Mirage fighter jets supplied by France.
  • In mid-July, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Poland would host joint exercises involving French and British troops in the autumn, aimed at preparing them to provide security guarantees to Ukraine after the war.
