Zelenskyy: This year, we will reach an equal amount of occupied and liberated territory

Details: Zelenskyy said that since the beginning of 2026, Russian forces have occupied 990 sq km of Ukrainian territory, while the defence forces have regained control of 820 sq km.
Quote: "We believe that in 2026 we will reach an equal amount of Ukrainian territory temporarily occupied by the Russians and territory liberated by us. At present, 990 sq km have been occupied since the beginning of the year, while we have regained control of 820 sq km".
Details: Zelenskyy added that Ukrainian forces have almost completely regained control of the territory of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
He noted that about 10 sq km remain to be liberated – three small settlements where, the president claims, there are "virtually no Russian troops" left.
The Ukrainian leader also said that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin does not want to end the war because of falling approval ratings.
