Rescue workers have completed search and rescue operations at the site of the Russian strike on a shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih. The death toll may rise from 16 to 19 following DNA testing.

Details: "At the scene, rescue workers cleared approximately 5,000 sq m of destroyed shopping centre structures and surveyed 100% of the area. A total of approximately 1,230 tonnes of building structures were removed," the SES stated.

The agency said that as of 25 August, 16 people had been killed and 136 injured in the Russian attack, including 26 children.

At the same time, on 24 August, rescue workers reported that three people, including a child, were still being searched for at the site of the Russian strike on the shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih.

The SES spokesperson explained to Ukrainska Pravda that during the investigation, matches were found between analyses of relatives of the missing and remains discovered during the rubble clearance. Laboratory DNA testing is currently underway, after which the death toll from the Russian strike may rise from 16 to 19.

The SES reported that rescue workers from Sumy, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Odesa, Cherkasy, Kharkiv and Kirovohrad oblasts were involved in the search and rescue operations. In total, nearly 200 rescue workers and more than 40 pieces of specialised equipment from the SES were deployed.

Background:

On 21 August, Russian forces attacked a shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih twice with drones, killing 16 people and injuring 140 more.
As of the morning of 24 August, 49 people injured in the Russian strike on the shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih on 21 August remained in hospital, 15 of them in a very serious or serious condition.
