Five drones entered Moldova during Russia's latest aerial attack on Ukraine

Five drones entered Moldovan airspace during a Russian aerial attack on Ukraine on the night of 26-27 August.

Details: The first drone crossing the state border from Ukraine into Moldova was detected near the town of Bălăbănești, heading towards Palanca, at 03:56. It immediately flew back towards Ukraine at 03:57.

The second drone was spotted from the direction of Starokozache, near the village of Căplani, at 03:59. It disappeared from radar at 04:10 near the village of Carahasani.

The third drone crossed the state border from Ukraine at 04:09, heading towards Palanca – Crocmaz – Olănești – Purcari – Răscăieți. At 04:24, the object disappeared from radar near the village of Pervomaisc, close to the border area.

The fourth drone crossed the state border at 04:16 towards Palanca, before continuing towards Maiaky in Ukraine.

At 05:50, a drone crossed the border between the two countries near the Săiți-Lisne border crossing point. At 06:02, it headed towards the Lisne crossing point, leaving Moldovan airspace.

Quote from Moldova's Defence Ministry: "The unauthorised flights over our country's airspace occurred as a result of the Russian Federation's aerial attacks on Ukraine. The national authorities, together with partners, continue to monitor the airspace to ensure the safety of the population."

Background:

• Igor Grosu, President of the Parliament of Moldova, believes frequent incidents involving drones violating the country's airspace are linked to the approaching elections to the Russian State Duma.
• Meanwhile, Moldovan President Maia Sandu believes that the frequent violations of her country's airspace by Russian drones are linked to "insufficient support for Ukraine to intercept them".
