Moldova's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov to deliver a protest note regarding the unauthorised entry into Moldovan airspace of five drones and missiles, which exploded near populated areas in four districts.

Details: The Moldovan Foreign Ministry stressed the seriousness of the incident, which put people's lives and safety at risk and caused fires and damage. Ozerov was summoned to the Foreign Ministry over the incident.

The ministry urged Russia to respect Moldova's sovereignty and territorial integrity and ensure that similar incidents do not happen again.

Background:

  • On 3 October, Moldova's national airspace monitoring system recorded the entry of several unmanned aerial vehicles. The National Army's Air Operations Service reported that five UAVs had crossed Moldovan airspace between 07:45 and 08:00.
  • Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatîi later clarified that the incident involved three missiles and two drones, debris from which fell in four different districts.
  • The Moldovan Defence Ministry subsequently reported a sixth unauthorised entry into its airspace amid Russia's massive morning attack on Ukraine.
  • Ozerov was also summoned to the Moldovan Foreign Ministry over drone incidents on 1 October.
