Zelenskyy on explosions near Kyiv: military warehouses hit, causing munitions and drones to detonate
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said the first strike in the village of Myla, the Bucha district, Kyiv Oblast, on 28 August hit defence forces warehouses that "shouldn't have been there".

The first strike was on an ammunition storage site that definitely shouldn't have been there – a defence forces storage facility. Shells, mines, other ammunition, and drones detonated. Background:
- Powerful explosions were heard in the Bucha district of Kyiv Oblast on the evening of 28 August. A warehouse facility caught fire, and all traffic was blocked in both directions on the M-06 Kyiv-Chop road between kilometres 15 and 32.
- Local authorities reported that the death toll from the Russian attack and subsequent detonation in Kyiv Oblast's Bucha district has risen to 37, while another 42 people were injured.
- Zelenskyy has said that ammunition cannot be stored near residential buildings.
- Commenting on the deaths of dozens of people after the Russian strike on Myla, Ukraine's General Staff said Russia is the root cause of the tragedy.
- Earlier, on 6 July 2026, a similar incident occurred in Vyshneve, Kyiv Oblast. A prolonged detonation at ammunition warehouses followed a Russian strike, killing nine people and damaging more than 280 houses.
