Finnish President Alexander Stubb has said Ukraine is now "in a stronger and better position than at any other point during this war" and is "the best guarantee of security against Russia".

Quote: "Today, Ukraine is in a stronger and better position than at any other point during this war – militarily, politically and financially.
Ukraine has the upper hand, and it will win this war."
Details: In Stubb's view, "if you survive, if you remain independent, if you remain a sovereign state – that is a victory".
For the president, supporting Ukraine is also an investment in their own security.
Quote: "We must understand – you in Germany and we in Finland – that Ukraine is the best security guarantee we have against Russia. If Ukraine loses, we lose."
Details: Stubb also expressed doubts about the possibility of a Russian nuclear strike against Ukraine, saying that this summer "the Chinese foreign minister visited me, and I raised this issue. And he said: 'We will never allow that to happen.' And I believe that's a fairly effective deterrent."
Background:
- Stubb said he does not seek to be a public participant in negotiations on ending the Russia-Ukraine war, but is ready to become a negotiator if necessary.
- He also said Ukraine needs to be prepared for the "worst" scenario regarding the situation this winter.
