Most EU countries to give European Peace Facility funds to Ukraine if unblocked – EU top diplomat

Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has said that if the European Peace Facility is unblocked, most EU member states are ready to allocate all the funds they receive to Ukraine's air defence.

Quote: "We are really making a push in getting the European Peace Facility unblocked. So, if that would happen in the coming days, then many Member States have already said that all the funds that they are getting back, they will give to Ukraine."

Details: The statement came as the EU prepares to unblock the European Peace Facility to finance air defence for Ukraine.

However, the EU foreign policy chief stressed that no decision should be expected on Tuesday 1 September because of the format of the meeting of EU defence ministers in Ireland.

"It is an informal ministerial, so we are not directly making any decisions," Kallas said.

Kallas recalled that €6.6 billion was at stake under the blocked European Peace Facility.

"But the question, and right now we have the discussion, how much of it goes back to the Member States and how much of it also goes to Ukraine. So, I cannot mention any concrete number," she added.

• As European Pravda previously reported, Germany had said that the €6.6 billion from the European Peace Facility unblocked by Hungary should be transferred entirely to Ukraine, although not all EU member states support this.
• It was previously reported that Hungary was lifting its veto on €6.6 billion from the European Peace Facility and that EU defence ministers had already discussed how the funds could be used to support Ukraine.
