Details: Kristersson announced that a meeting of the National Security Council, which was convened after Germany said Russia was responsible for the failed drone attack at Leipzig airport, had just concluded in Stockholm.
"At the meeting, the Swedish Military Intelligence and Security Service and the Security Service briefed the government on their assessment of the situation regarding the Russian hybrid threat to Sweden. The government believes the events in Leipzig should be regarded as part of Russia's increasingly active hybrid actions, which are characterised by growing recklessness and indifference," the Swedish prime minister said.
"The aim of Russia's actions is to undermine Europe's support for Ukraine, increase pressure on our societies, and sow division and fear. But Russia will not succeed," Kristersson added.
Background:
- On 1 September, Germany directly accused Russia of carrying out a hybrid attack at Leipzig airport in early August and announced measures in response, including the closure of the consulate general in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul summoned the Russian ambassador in connection with this.
- The EU and several member states also summoned Russian diplomats over the Leipzig incident.
