The Ukrainian Navy explained that the Nefrit, as part of Russia's maritime and energy infrastructure, supported oil and gas operations, serviced offshore facilities, transported cargo and personnel, and carried out subsea engineering work.

The vessel's activities had directly supported Russia's war economy and helped finance its aggression against Ukraine.

The Krymsky Veter (Crimean Wind) Telegram channel also posted a video clearly showing the vessel being struck.
