Over half of Germans support arms supplies to Ukraine

A total of 52% of Germans support arms supplies to Ukraine, a poll has shown.

Details: Specifically, 38% of Germans consider arms supplies to Ukraine to be appropriate, while 14% would even support an increase in arms deliveries.

However, 42% of those surveyed believe that arms supplies have gone too far – a level of opposition not seen in recent years.

Among voters in eastern Germany, a majority (54%) consider arms supplies to be excessive.

Ensuring peace in Europe is currently one of the biggest foreign policy challenges facing the German government.

Among Germany's political parties, voters have the greatest confidence in the CDU/CSU when it comes to addressing this challenge: 23% believe these parties are the most competent to do so, compared with 16% for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and 12% for the Social Democratic Party (SPD).

Other parties – including the Greens (8%), the Left (6%), the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (3%) and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) (2%) – play a less prominent role in public perception of this issue.
