Zelenskyy: Russians prevented Witkoff and Kushner from arriving by plane, so they travelled to Ukraine by rail

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Ukraine had been preparing to receive envoys of US President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, at an airport.

Details: The US negotiators arrived in Kyiv on Sunday and were met at a railway station in the Ukrainian capital.

"Unfortunately, the Russians have shown through their strikes that they [Witkoff and Kushner – ed.] cannot land or use an aircraft, although we had prepared everything and our airports are operating," Zelenskyy said before Kushner and Witkoff arrived by motorcade at Sofiiska Square.

Earlier on 6 September, Zelenskyy said he had held a meeting with the negotiating team ahead of talks with the representatives of the US president.
Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian ruler, said Putin told the US envoys during Saturday's talks that he is confident his war aims will be achieved. The White House described the talks as "substantive" and announced that the next steps will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
