Putin and Trump discuss US special envoys' trip to Kyiv
Russian leader Vladimir Putin held a phone call with US President Donald Trump on 8 September, during which they discussed the visit of US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Kyiv and Moscow. Kremlin officials say Trump wants to achieve peace in Ukraine during his term in office.

Details: The Russian side claimed that Trump wants to achieve a breakthrough in resolving Russia's war against Ukraine during his presidency.
According to RIA Novosti, Trump told Putin that ending the war in Ukraine would "pave the way for the full restoration of relations between Russia and the United States".
Putin assured Trump during the call that Russia has no aggressive plans towards Europe.
RIA Novosti said Putin and Trump described the results of the US special envoys' trips to Russia and Ukraine as "positive".
The Kremlin also claims Putin and Trump have agreed to "remain in contact" and call each other if necessary.
Trump's term officially ends in January 2029. The next US presidential election is planned for 2028.
